Is it right for me?
Are you working with animals in a responsible role at work and wishing to further your qualification? Then the Advanced apprenticeship is for you. While working full time in an animal care establishment, you will come into College on day release for about two years, during which time you will gain the practical skills to supervise staff and the animals' environment within an animal care establishment, together with the technical skills needed for the course assessment.
The NVQ3 forms part of the Advanced Apprenticeship scheme: to complete the whole apprenticeship, you will also need to gain a Technical Certificate in Animal Care, key skills and industrial certificates.

What qualifications will I need?
NVQ Level 2 in Animal Care or other Level 2 qualification (e.g. First Diploma in Animal Care or National Certificate in Animal Care ).

What is involved?
12 units to complete, consisting of 6 core and 6 optional. Four Technical Certificate units and exam. Each subject will be delivered and assessed one at a time. College day release will be partly theory and partly practical.

Where will it take me?
Employment within the sector or allied industries. For those seeking junior management/supervisory position.

What else does the course include?
Key Skills Level 2 Communication. Application of Number.

What materials are required?
Writing materials. Protective overalls (when there is a practical element). Steel toe'capped boots.

What is next?
Foundation Degree in Animal Management. Supervisory Skills Certificate, NVQ Management.

How will I be assessed?
This course requires a high level of commitment and generation of evidence. Assessment will take place in the work place, supported with a portfolio of understanding and evidence.
