Apprenticeship in Traffic Office

Course Details

The Apprenticeship comprises of a framework of three qualifications: 1. Competence Based Element - Traffic Office Level 2 NVQ The Traffic Office NVQ at Level 2 requires 8 mandatory units to be successfully completed. There is 1 additional unit that can added if desired, if it is relevant to the apprentice's role. This unit relates to international road traffic operations. 2. Key Skills - Communication Level 1 and Application of number Level 1 or Functional Skills - Maths Level 1 and English Level 1 For Apprentices following the Traffic Office Framework, employed status is the preferred route. Employed status means that the Apprentice is directly employed by an employer and is on their payroll. The Apprenticeship and Advanced Apprenticeship Frameworks for Traffic Office are specifically targeted at those who are instrumental in the planning, scheduling, and routing of loads. There is an emphasis on high standards of customer service. The Apprenticeship Framework requires a good level of occupational competence in routine tasks within a traffic office associated with the land transport of goods.. The Advanced Apprenticeship offers a broader and more comprehensive assessment and is aimed at those who take on more responsibility for carrying out more complex tasks associated with effective traffic office operations.

Qualifications required:
There are no formal entry requirements for the Traffic Office Apprenticeship or the Traffic Office Advanced Apprenticeship. Example skills and attributes could include: * Interest in the job role, and motivation to succeed within the industry * Willingness to learn and apply that learning in the workplace * Reliability, and the willingness to work with flexibility in varying circumstances * Punctuality, working in a trustworthy manner and paying due regard to the particular characteristics and safety of the goods/materials being transported * Willingness to recognise the necessity for a high level of customer service, and to be prepared to consistently meet the standards required * Ability to calculate basic general numeric requirements, and to demonstrate a reasonable clear standard of written communication and reading skills * Ability to communicate with others and the motivation to work well within a team * Willingness to learn to take responsibility for their actions within the limits of their authority * Willingness to learn to be self -reliant when this is required * Willingness to comply with instructions, to follow procedures, and to carry out duties which may be repetitive * Ability to undertake work tasks accurately in reasonable time * Willingness to work shift patterns associated with 24/7 operations

Course length:
Whilst there should be no set time serving it is envisaged that the minimum duration period for completion of the Traffic Office Apprenticeship will generally be 12 months, and 18 months for the Traffic Office Advanced Apprenticeship

Skills for Logistics have established a framework for career progression within the Logistics Sector entitled the Professional Development Stairway, details of which can be found This progression framework applies to companies engaged in the provision of courier services exactly as it does to any other logistics sub sector.
Apprentices completing the Traffic Office Apprenticeship may, depending on the right opportunity, be able to progress on to the Traffic Office Advanced Apprenticeship. This involves greater technical content and also reflects the supervisory and management responsibilities expected at this level.
Also, Apprentices completing this framework may choose to progress their career through widening their experience within the logistics sector. Some apprentices may wish to work within storage & warehousing, and for who wish to do so, there is both an Apprenticeship and an Advanced Apprenticeship framework. .There are also opportunities for progression; through driving job roles , where specific categories of licences apply depending on the vehicles to be driven and Apprenticeships and Advanced Apprenticeships are available in Carry and Deliver Goods and Driving Goods Vehicles.
