Course Description: This course has been designed as a first step towards a career in Engineering and is aimed at individuals who wish to become a Technician Engineer, but have not gained direct entry to National Certificate courses, but have at least one grade C and a number of D grades at GCSE level.

Modules include:
  • Science & Maths
  • Electronic Circuits & Testing
  • Electronic Components
  • Working Practices in Engineering
  • Selecting & Using Secondary Machining Techniques to Remove Material
  • Electronic Circuit Construction & Testing

Practical units from the Performing Engineering Operations provide the hands on competences such as Fitting, Machining, Installing Electrical Circuits and Building and Testing Electronic Circuits.

Entry Requirements:
  • A good level of literacy and numeracy supported by a general education equivalent to four GCSEs at grades C-D or
  • Related work experience or
  • Other related Level 1 or 2 qualifications.


Progression/Career Opportunities: A wide range of careers can be obtained in High Technology Industries and Sectors. Alternatively, students can continue studies at National Certificate or National Diploma Levels.
