Course Content

The First Diploma is a one year course. Approximately 100 hours of work placement within the health and social care sector.

Opportunity to achieve the Level 2 Welsh Baccalaureate qualification.

Opportunity to gain First Aid and Food Handling qualification.
Career Prospects and Progression

Students gaining a BTEC First Diploma in Health and Social Care will learn and use a variety of skills throughout the course, which will then enable them to enter employment or apply for level 3 courses.

Core Units 1. Communication and Individual Rights within the Health and Social Care Sectors 2. Individual Needs within the Health and Social Care Sectors. Optional Specialised Units (which will be decided by staff before the start of the course) 3. Vocational Experience in a Health and Social Care Setting (this includes 60 hours of mandatory work placement experience) 4. Cultural Diversity in Health and Social Care 5. Anatomy and Physiology for Health and Social Care 6. Human Lifespan Development

Method of Assessment

All assessment is done through course work, there are no examinations.

Course Length

The First Diplom in Health and Social Care can be studied as a full time one year course, or over two years as a part time course.
