The Course

COURSE CANCELLED FOR 2010 START
The course gives students current technical skills and knowledge required for a job within the computing and IT profession. Students may already be working within IT or looking for a career move into IT. It is very practical and covers:
  • Computer and network configuration (Windows)
  • Systems analysis
  • Database design and implementation (MS Access and Programming)
  • Software development (C++ in the first year and Java in the second year)
  • Web design (Macromedia, Dreamweaver and Flash)
Six hours out of College study time, each week, is required.

Course Content
10 separate units are presented for the HNC award over the two years. The focus of the units is towards software development with C++ being delivered in the first year and Java and OO Design being delivered in the second year. Progression/Career Path
The HNC qualification increases students chances of starting a career within the computing and IT profession. Examples of first level computing jobs include systems programmer, systems developer, systems analyst, database developer, IT consultant and web designer/programmer.
