Part Time BTEC Level 3 Diploma in Developing Counselling Skills

Course Description:
This is a Level 3 NVQ Course providing a BTEC Diploma in Developing Counselling Skills. The aim of the programme is to help and assist people to develop advanced counselling skills and theory to prepare them for using counselling skills in different settings. It also prepares students to undertake higher level courses and work with clients as a professional counsellor.

Content
This course is a 300 hour programme of study which has 5 units, all of which must be passed in order to obtain the BTEC qualification. There are 3 compulsory units (known as core units). These are introduction to counselling, theoretical approaches to counselling and issues for developing counsellor practitioner. There are also 2 specialist units which have to be completed. These units are chosen by the college and will focus on certain common areas and issues experienced by counsellors.

Entry Requirements:
Applicants must be aged 20 or over.

Assessment and Progression:
Students will need to have an attendance of at least 80%. Work will be assessed through achievement of specific unit learning outcomes, each unit will have specific assessments to be passed. Most work will be set internally but at least one piece of work will be marked externally by EDEXCEL.

Progression
This course is designed to provide confidence to practice counselling skills in different settings, for example a work setting. After successful completion of this course you may progress onto the Level 4 City and Guilds Higher Professional Diploma in Counselling.

Two years part-time

Entry onto this course is determined by interview and successful completion of a Level 2 Certificate in Counselling Skills or equivalent
