The BTEC National Diploma is a nationally recognised qualification that is equivalent to three A Levels and therefore provides a natural stepping stone to courses in higher education.
Course Content
The course helps to develop the performance skills, technical abilities and professional attitude essential for the successful performer. It focuses on specialist training within musical theatre, dance, singing and drama that provide a firm foundation for a range of careers in the performing arts industry, especially musical theatre and dance.
The course covers a variety of related subjects that may include:
- Acting for musical theatre
- Choreographing dance
- Dance performance
- Devising theatre
- Historical context of performing arts
- Performing to an audience
- Singing & vocal workshops
- Storytelling as performance
- The healthy performer.
In the second year of the course there is the opportunity for students to visit New York for a week to experience theatre on Broadway. The students' last public performance of the course takes place in the Grantham Guildhall Theatre and is open to the public.
Method of Assessment
Practical assignments, professional practice, performances and portfolio.
Progression
On successful completion of the course most students progress to dance schools, universities, or go straight into the performing arts industry.
