About this course

Normally GCSE Grade C or better in Mathematics, English and a Science will be required. Other qualifications i.e. BTEC First Certificate, City & Guilds Certificates, Service Certificates, practical experience etc., may be considered as suitable. These will be judged on their individual merits at the time of application.

Part Time BTEC National Certificate in Electrical & Electronic Engineering

Course Description: Aim
This certificate is a nationally recognised Technician qualification suitable for those beginning a career in the Electrical and/or Electronic Engineering Industry.

Content
All successful entrants will follow one of the following options:

  • Electronic Engineering Option. For those involved in the design, use, operation, installation and maintenance of digital and analogue systems. The option subjects cover a wide range of electronic principles, devices and applications and includes fault diagnosis. (Subject to student numbers).
  • Electrical Engineering Option. For those in the heavy electrical plant industry and/or the electrical services industry, dealing with the design, manufacture, installation and maintenance of heavy electrical plant, services and supplies. (Subject to student numbers).
  • Electrical & Electronic Engineering Option. For those involved in aspects of options 1 and 2.



Each subject has a credit value of 1.0 apart from the project, which is a double unit, and a credit total of 12 is required for the award of the Certificate. The following tables show the programme content for each option. All students will study Mathematics, which will provide the basic mathematical skills for this programme. There are some common curriculum areas between the options, where 5 units are core - compulsory units, and will be studied in whichever option is selected.

Assessment and Progression:
Assessment
The topic areas will be assessed using written and practical assignments, phase tests and end tests. The lecturing team, based on the performance in all assessed work, will decide final grading for each unit. An integral part of the assignments is the recording of grades for interpersonal skills achieved and demonstrated throughout the programme. The Lincoln College is committed to maintaining Records of Achievement and providing appropriate feedback through action planning.

Progression
This programme will enable the successful student to progress onto associated Higher National programmes.
