Part Time BTEC National Certificate in Engineering

Course Description:
The course is intended for any Mechanical Engineering Technician employed in design, manufacturing, maintenance, energy supply industries, Royal Air Force, Regional Hospitals and Local Authorities. It is an integral part of the Modern Apprentice framework.

Course Content
Eleven units will be covered over a two-year period of study.

Year 1

  • Communications for Technicians
  • Mechanical Principles
  • Mathematics for Technicians
  • Properties and Applications of Engineering Materials
  • Applications of Mechanical Systems & Technology
  • Engineering Drawing for Technicians



Year 2

  • Business Systems for Technicians
  • Project (Double Unit)
  • Further Mechanical Principles & Applications



PLUS (FOR THE MECHANICAL OPTION)

  • Principles & Applications of Thermodynamics
  • Computer Aided Draughting



PLUS (FOR THE MANUFACTURING OPTION)

  • Engineering Secondary and Finishing Processes
  • Computer Numerical Control of Machine Tools


Learning will consist of taught lessons, investigations, projects and assignments. Learners will demonstrate an understanding of each unit's outcomes in a variety of ways. These may include assignments, timed assessments, course work. The assessment method will vary depending upon the unit.

This part-time day release course lasts for two years.
First year is on Wednesday 9.00am - 7.30pm
