Course Content

The focus of the course is investigative and students will be required to address issues such as what people want; what business does; business efficiency; markets; competition and global business activity.

Course Features

The course encourages students to adopt an investigative approach, applying knowledge of the real world. .

Coursework is intended to provide students with an opportunity to apply theories and concepts.

Successful students will be able to apply knowledge of Economic and Business theories and concepts to understanding problems and potential solutions.

A-Level students will be required to produce two further pieces of coursework and sit two examinations in order to gain the higher qualification. Unit 4 is offered in January and Unit 5 the synoptic unit is offered in June.

Candidates will expected to complete two pieces of coursework for AS and two pieces of coursework for A2. The pieces should involve candidates investigating a question or hypothesis such as, ?How has Tesco gained a competitive advantage over its rivals.?

Students will sit assessment units in January and June. AS students will sit Unit 1 in January and Unit 2 in June. Their will be an opportunity for AS students to resit modules if they wish.
Career Prospects and Progression

A Levels provide an excellent basis for progression to Higher level qualifications such as degrees or Higher National Diplomas. Employers from many diverse fields recognise the benefit of studying Business Studies. Employment opportunities exist in Retail and Manufacturing Industries, Finance and Accounting and the Public Sector.

Method of Assessment

Students will be required to complete four pieces of coursework and to sit four external examinations. The written papers will require students to answer questions based on stimulus material.
