C&G 7305 Diploma in Teaching in the Lifelong Learning Sector

Course Description:

This programme enables suitably qualified people to acquire a nationally recognised qualification, which meets the current national standards for teachers in the lifelong learning sector. Successful candidates can subsequently begin the process of Professional Formation for Qualified Teacher, Learning and Skills status.

This programme addresses the six key domains of the national standards for teaching in the lifelong learning sector.

Level: 5 Course Type: Part Time Entry RequirementsEntry Requirements:

  • Confirmation from your employer that you have a total of at least 75 hours' teaching over each year of the programme.
  • Either confirmation from your employer that you have skills equivalent to a Level 3 qualification or above; or copies of certificates of qualifications at Level 3 or above.
  • A copy of a Criminal Records Bureau Disclosure, valid for the organisation in which you are teaching.

Progression & AssessmentAssessment and Progression:

There are no examinations, but candidates will be expected to complete 7 mandatory units and a minimum of two optional units appropriate to their teaching area and experience. In addition they will be observed by a tutor from the teacher training team on 8 occasions over the two years of the course.

Achievement of this qualification will allow you to apply to the Institute for Learning for Qualified Teacher: Learning and Skills (QTLS) status. You will be prepared for continuing professional development opportunities; for example:

  • study for a first degree in education;
  • study for a post-graduate qualification in education;
  • study for a specialised qualification in the Skills for Life sector;
  • Study which will enhance your skills, for example, in mentoring or coaching.

The programme is run on a part-time basis, over two academic years.
