For those seeking to gain their first teaching qualification who have either no teaching hours in place and/or need to acquire further specialist subject and/or literacy qualifications, the College offers the Award in Preparing to Teach in the Lifelong Learning Sector (PTLLS). This is an introductory award with no requirement for teaching hours.

C.T.L.L.S. Teaching Certificate
This programme leads to a Certificate in Teaching Competence awarded by the University of Greenwich and forms part of the larger Professional Certificate in Education (PCE). It is available as a stand-alone qualification and is suitable for assessors, instructors and demonstrators who teach learners but do not occupy a 'full' teaching role, as defined by the Further Education Teachers Qualifications (England) Regulations 2007. On certification, holders of this qualification will be eligible to apply for Associate Teacher Learning and Skills (ATLS) status with the Institute for Learning (IfL), the professional body for teachers, trainers and assessors across the Further Education (FE) sector.
Course Content:
Students will cover the following modules:
- Preparing to Teach in the Lifelong Learning Sector (PTLLS), which confers a threshold licence to teach in the sector (6 credits)
- Planning and Enabling Learning (9 credits)
- Managing and Supporting Learning (6 credits)
- Principles and Practice of Assessment (3 credits)

Entry Process:
All applicants will be interviewed prior to acceptance for the course. An interview will be arranged at the earliest opportunity after receiving your application.
Progression Routes:
Students who achieve the Certificate in Teaching in the Lifelong Learning Sector (CTLLS) and who later enter a full teaching role can progress to the second year of the PCE / PGCE on completion of a 36 credit portfolio of evidence.
