Part Time CACHE Level 3 Diploma in Home-based Childcare (DHC)

Course Description:
This new award replaces the CACHE Certificate in Childminding Practice (CCP). The DHC has a broader scope in order to cover the work of registered childminders, nannies and other home-based childcarers. The qualification provides the knowledge and skills for home-based childcare practitioners working with children aged 0-16 years and has been updated to cover developments in the childcare sector including the Common Core and the new Occupational Standards.

Content
The Diploma consists of 5 units all of which must be successfully completed in order to achieve the full Level 3 Diploma.

Unit 1 Introduction to Childcare Practice (home-based) is a 15 hour stand-alone course assessed by a multiple choice question paper. This course meets the childminder registration requirements as specified by Ofsted.

The remaining four units each have 30 guided learning hours and are assessed on successful completion of written assignments.
Unit 2 Childcare and Child Development (0-16) in the home-based setting.
Unit 3 The Childcare Practitioner in the Home-based Setting.
Unit 4 Working in Partnership with Parents in the Home-based Setting.
Unit 5 Planning to Meet the Children's Individual Learning Needs in the home-based Setting.

Anyone who has successfully completed the Introducing Childminding Practice (ICP) unit of the Certificate in Childminding Practice since the 1st of September 2002 can accredit this against Unit 1 of the DHC this means that candidates do not have to complete the first unit of the new Diploma but must successfully complete Units 2-5 of the DHC to achieve the full Level 3 Diploma.

Entry Requirements: Criminal Records Bureau Policy
The majority of the Care and Early Years programmes require a number of hours on work placement, in order to achieve the full qualification. Candidates working with all client groups, whether children, the elderly or people with a disability will need to complete a Criminal Records Bureau check before they can go into the work setting.

Candidates must be aware that if they have received a caution, reprimand or conviction it may prohibit them from enrolling on a Care and Early Years programme of study and gaining employment in a care / childcare setting.

The procedure will be fully explained at interview and forms given to you for completion prior to the start of the programme.

Due to the amount of time required to process the Criminal Records Bureau (CRB) information we would like to receive applications and completed CRB forms by 1 August 2009. This will help ensure we have the information we need to arrange the suitable placements needed for this course.

Assessment and Progression:
This course is assessed through multiple choice question papers and written assignments.

Progression
After you have achieved the Diploma in Home-based Childcare you could work towards the NVQ Level 3 in Childrens Care, Learning and Development or progress to a level 4 qualification.
