About this course
You must be working as a Carpenter/Joiner within the construction industry and possess a Level 2 qualification in Carpentry to be eligible to study for the NVQ Level 3 in Carpentry & Joinery.

If you are working in the carpentry trade you will benefit from this practical and challenging course which will provide you with the opportunity to further improve your skills and knowledge. This NVQ is in Site Carpentry or Bench Joinery.
What will I be learning?
The units of study you will undertake will be selected from the following: assisting with the organisation of resources, assisting with workplace organisation, contributing to the progress of operations, co-ordinating/installing first fixing components, co-ordinating/installing second fixing components and co-ordinating/installing structural carcassing (complex stairs and cut roofing). Bench Joinery option will include: setting out, marking out an production of complex joinery components.
The course is aimed at people working within the Carpentry industry who wish to gain a nationally recognised qualification as evidence of their advanced level of competence.
How will I learn?
You will need to complete practical assignments, theoretical tests, a portfolio of work-based evidence and a Health and Safety test. A suitably experienced person at your place of work and a college work-based assessor will record your progress on site.
What else might I want to know?
You will need to provide your own protective clothing, footwear, textbooks and stationery. All other personal protective equipment will be provided.
What can I do afterwards?
Learners will increase their employment and/or self employment prospects and could progress onto Higher Education such as the Higher National Certificate in Construction at South Devon College.
