Course Overview
This course is aimed at those who have already achieved a basic craft qualification (NVQ L1 or L1 Diploma), and wish to progress onto a Level 2.

Course Structure
This is a 1-2 year course with attendance from 9.00am â€" 5.00pm one day a week.

The programme consists of 8 units. Some of the topics covered will be:

  • Safe working practices
  • Building methods
  • Quantities &communication
  • Hand skills
  • Site carpentry or bench joinery skills
  • Maintaining tools and equipment
  • Prepare and use powertools
  • Handle & store materials



Qualification Aims
The Level 2 diploma (in either Site Carpentry or Bench Joinery) will be awarded on successful completion.
Those employed in the industry can collect valid work based evidence and also achieve the NVQ Level 2.
(This qualification is also a good foundation for starting an apprenticeship).

Candidates can then progresson to the L3 Diploma, or into full time employment.

Assessments/Examinations
The course is continuously assessed following a period of training with assessments covering practical and written work, together with assignments and one externally set online test

Free tuition is available to those in receipt of certain means tested benefits or to their un-waged dependants.

Steel toecap boots
Simple calculator
Set squares 30/6and 45°(large)
Scale rule
2H pencils
A4 note pad

The cost of the equipment will vary according to quality. As a guide you will probably spend£30-£40 on the above.
