Is it right for me?
This course provides the knowledge and understanding required for the modern dairy worker. It will also introduce and develop key practical skills. Those wishing to complete the NVQ level 3 Livestock (Dairy) award, for example as part of an Advanced Apprenticeship, will start at 9.15 am on course days. What qualifications will I need?
Normally NVQ 2 or equivalent qualification. Working in a dairy or an allied industry eg sales rep.

What will I be learning about?
This is a 31 day course (College Certificate) taught over one year and covers the knowledge required for:
  • Selecting breeding stock
  • Rearing young stock
  • Controlling health and disease
  • Maintaining fertility
  • Feeding dairy cows
  • Keeping the necessary records

This course is certificated with a College Certificate or NVQ 3 Livestock (Dairy) qualification. The course includes practical skills development and is assessed by NPTC Certificates of Competence ' ML4 Milking and Safe Use of Veterinary Medicines.

Lectures, Practicals, Visits.

Herdsperson, herd manager, feed rep, country store rep.

What else does the course include?
This course can be used to gain the underpinning knowledge required for NVQ Livestock (Dairy) award (C&G)

What materials are required?
Waterproof outdoor clothing, overalls and wellington boots. Basic stationery and calculator. Tetanus protection is recommended.
