WHAT'S IT ALL ABOUT?
You will receive practical training to enable you to teach English to adult speakers of other languages. You are assessed on teaching practice, 4 written assignments and your professional development during the course. There is no external exam.

WHAT DO I NEED?
WHAT ARE MY COMMITMENTS?
1. To attend classes on Tuesday evenings 5.30pm to 8.00 pm.
2. To attend teaching practice on Tuesday afternoon 2.00pm to 4.00 pm. You will complete 6 hours in total but attendance every week is required to observe fellow trainees teaching if you are not teaching yourself.
3. You will also need to observe qualified teachers for 6 hours in total. Most of this is completed during September, October and February. All teaching practice and observation takes place at the college.
4. Trainees also do one microteaching session each, lasting 10 minutes, at some time during the course.
5. You will need to allow approximately 3 hours per week for preparation and reading whilst the course is in progress.

WHAT WILL I ACHIEVE?
On successful completion of the course you will achieve the Cambridge ESOL Level 4 Certificate for Teachers of ESOL.

ADDITIONAL FEE INFORMATION
On acceptance of your place on the course you will need to pay half the course fees to reserve your place, the remainder will need to be paid before your course commences - your deposit is non-refundable.
You will be sent a pre-course task which needs to be completed before the course starts and you will receive this once your deposit has been paid.

WHAT CAN I DO AFTERWARDS?
The CELTA certificate is one of the most widely recognised qualifications for English Language Teaching in the world and the job market is very buoyant. You can move onto the Certificate for ESOL Subject Specialists or, after 2 years experience, you can apply for the DELTA course.

WHAT DO I NEED?
You will need at least 2 A Levels or equivalent.
A good command of English, both in speaking and writing is looked for, together with an awareness of grammar.
You need to be aged 20 or above.
You need to submit a hand written letter of application, (approximately 350 words), stating why you want to do the course, together with your CV to Learner Guidance Services. You will then be invited to a group interview which comprises further clarification of the course, group activities, a 5-minute teaching slot per interviewee and a short written test on your knowledge of how the English Language works.
