Who Is The Award For? This qualification is aimed at candidates who: are in an Associate Teacher role or would like an introduction to teaching in the sector and who are able to teach at least 30 hours on a group or one-to-one basis. It is suitable for those who work or want to work as: teachers in the Lifelong Learning Sector ie Further Education (FE), adult and community education, work-based learning and the voluntary sector (provided they are qualified or experienced in the subject they intend to teach), technicians and support staff in further and adult education. The qualification is designed to contribute towards the skills, knowledge and understanding for the Lifelong Learning Sector (LLUK) Professional Standards and provides a route for progression to the Certificate in Education (Cert. Ed.) or Professional Graduate Certificate in Education (PGCE). What Is In The Teaching Programme? The qualification is designed to enable candidates to: adopt an integrated approach to the theory and practice of teaching, reflect on their own previous/current levels of experience, practice and skills and areas for development, identify principles of learning, teaching, assessment and evaluation, develop communication and inter-personal skills, develop an awareness of their professional role and responsibilities. How Is The Course Organised? The course requires attendance for one session per week for 24 weeks. It is strongly biased towards the practicalities of teaching/training with the emphasis on group work and participation. How Is The Course Assessed? There are a number of written and practical tasks which are assessed by the Tutor on an ongoing basis. There are no examinations. When Does It Take Place? The course runs every term, subject to sufficient numbers. How Much Does It Cost? For home students the course fee is approximately 333. Information on fees for overseas students is available upon request. If you are unemployed or claiming certain State Benefits, you may be able to get a reduction. Payments can be spread throughout the time of the course on a direct debit arrangement. Please note that fees may be subject to change and are intended to give an indication only. What Do I Need To Get On The Course? you need an appropriate qualification (at level 3 or above) or substantial experience in the subject area in which you intend to teach, you must have arranged at least 30 hours of Teaching Practice, spread over the duration of the course when you can teach your specialist subject to learners aged over 16yrs. This can be on a voluntary basis. For the purpose of the course it is not necessary to have taught before, you must have the potential and ability to complete a level 3 qualification involving some academic research and substantial reading and writing. Please note that each application will be considered on an individual basis and a place on the course is not guaranteed.
