Course Overview

Qualification gained: Certificate in Teaching in the Lifelong Learning Sector (CTLLS)

Course Content: There are two mandatory units to be completed on this course and one optional unit. The mandatory units are: Unit 1 Planning and Enabling Learning Unit 2 Principles and Practice of Assessment The optional unit may reflect the context in which you are teaching, elements related to a particular teaching role or specialise in particular subjects. As this qualification is new, a full list of optional units is not yet available.

Work Experience: You must have access to 30 hours of teaching practice, this may be in a voluntary role or as an employee

Course Assessment: Each unit of the course is assessed by completion of a practical and theoretical assignment. These are assessed by the course tutor and internally verified by another member of the team. You will be required to give a 30 minute presentation to your peer group about your learning for each unit during the course as well as submit written reports about research you have carried out.

Progression: This course will allow you to apply for Associate Teacher Learning and Skills (ATLS) status with the Institute for Learning. If your teaching role expands to cover a wider context you may consider progressing to the Diploma in Teaching in the Lifelong Learning Sector. You will already have completed unit 1 of this course.

Homework: It is expected that you will complete 120 hours of independent study during the course. This may include the 30 hours of teaching practice that is needed and any planning and marking time this includes too.

Additional Costs: There are no extra costs associated with this course. Please note that the figure given is a provisional fee at the moment as we are awaiting further information about the course costs from the awarding body.

  • Part Time Course Fee Relate to Year 1 course fees only. Two year course fees will have an additional course fee for the second year; these fees are subject to confirmation annually.
