Course Content
NVQ's are a system of awards that wer introduced for people involved in vocational work. There are a series of NVQs specifically designed for those working within Health and Social care.
There are four mandatory units and a choice of two optional units from a selection of twenty-five. The mandatory units cover communication, health and safety, personal development and care and protection of individuals.
Method of Assessment
Each qualification is a combination of mandatory and optional units.
To achieve an NVQ at Level 2 a candidate must be assessed as competent in all of the mandatory units for health and social care and a choice of two optional units. In a health care setting the candidate can choose at least two of the mandatory units and the other four units can be chosen from the mandatory or optional units. The choice of optional units will reflect the candidate's work setting. Assessment takes place in the workplace, meeting national standards, using observation, witness testimony, reflective accounts, and professional discussion. The candidate may also be expected to answer written or oral questions and perhaps a short project.
In the workplace you will need to be actively working with individuals requiring support. An assessor will be allocated unless you have a qualified work-based assessor. You will also gather evidence and this will be put in a portfolio. Evidence comprises of your work experiences with adults.
Progression
Upon completion of level 2, students may progress on to NVQ level 3 Health and Social Care, BTEC National in Care - subject to interview and required GCSE's.
