Course Details

The level 2 Certificate is designed to ensure that all employees are aware of their own safety and the safety of customer's contractors and the public. The qualification has been developed to address the national occupational standards in health and safety. National occupational standards are statements of knowledge and understanding expected from employees by employers and industry. They are developed by the Employment National Training Organisation (ENTO) to address the health and safety requirements of every employment sector in the UK. Course Content 1. Introduction Candidates will appreciate the nature of health and safety 2. Health and safety law Candidates will understand the scope of legislative requirements. 3. Health Candidates will understand the importance of preventing work-related ill health. 4. Safety Candidates will understand the principles of accident prevention. 5. Welfare Candidates will understand the risks associated with poor welfare. 6. The workplace and work equipment Candidates will be aware of the hazards and risks associated with the workplace and work equipment. 7. Risk assessment Candidates will understand that risk assessment is an important technique for accident and ill health prevention. 8. Manual handling Candidates will understand the risks associated with manual handling. 9. Hazardous substances Candidates will appreciate the nature and risks of hazardous substances. 10. Ergonomics and workstation design Candidates will understand how workplace equipment and task design affect health and safety. 11. Working at heights Candidates will understand the hazards and risks associated with working at heights. 12. Transport and vehicles Candidates will understand the hazards and risks associated with working with vehicles. 13. Noise and vibration Candidates will understand the potential long and short-term effects of exposure to noise and vibration. Assessment The candidates are assessed by an examination paper consisting of 30 multiple choice questions to be completed in one hour under examination conditions. Candidates must participate in at least 80% of the course to be eligible to take the examination. Candidates who achieve 20 or more correct answers will pass the examination and receive a certificate.

Course length:
The training time to cover the syllabus is at least six hours and is typically covered in one day. The time taken to deliver the programme does not include coffee/tea/lunch breaks, revision sessions or mock' examinations.
