About this course
You should posses a Level 1 Certificate in PC Maintenance or already have a good working knowledge of computer repair and maintenance. It is assumed that you will be proficient in the use of MS Windows operating systems and computer software applications.

What will I study?
Modules studied on the City & Guilds qualification will include: Maintain Equipment & systems; Customer Support Provision; Install & Configure Equipment and Operating Systems; Install, Configure & Maintain Software. There are also four OCN units within this course, these support learning in the areas of computer hardware, installing software and using MS Windows to configure a computer.
How will I be assessed?
Four Practical Assessments carried out in class under examination conditions. One multiple-choice online test. You will also build a portfolio of all your practical work across the year, which provides evidence of competence in practical skills and underpinning knowledge.
Career Opportunities & Progression
You will develop valuable practical skills through maintaining and upgrading real computer hardware and software. You will also gain the underpinning knowledge to give you a good understanding of computer hardware. Successful completion of this course can lead to opportunities to progress to a City & Guilds Level 3 Advanced Diploma for IT Practitioners, or a vocational BTEC course for IT Practitioners. The level 2 Diploma is suitable for those who already have some experience of maintaining and upgrading their own computer but want to improve their understanding and practical skills.
