Construction National Diploma
This course is for those interested in a career in professional design, administration or the supervisory side of the building industry, including civil engineering, architecture, surveying, estate management, quantity surveying and building surveying. A BTEC National Diploma qualification is directly equivalent to three A-levels and offers a good opportunity for progression to Higher Education (HE) and employment.
Course Content:
Subjects studied will include:
- Architectual drawings
- Computer-aided design
- Construction technology
- Land /Site surveying
- Building surveying
- Quantity surveying
Students will also have the opportunity to study a City & Guilds qualification in AutoCAD and in supplementary studies as an integral part of their course.
Key Skills:
Key skills in IT, Application of Number and Communication are an integral part of the course.

Edexcel.
Work Experience / Practical Experience:
Each year of the course includes a one week residential surveying field trip.
Attendance Requirements:
Full-time. Details regarding expected course timetable and attendance will be given at interview, if available.
Entry Requirements:

Entry Process:
All applicants will be invited to an interview with the tutor, allowing you to find out more and check that the course is the best option for you. Interviews normally take place between January and September of the year in which the course starts.
Assessment:
Continuous assessment through work-related assignments plus end of unit examinations.
Progression Routes:
Many students progress to HE, enrolling on degrees in architecture, building management and design, surveying or civil engineering. Other students choose the two-year Foundation Degree route offered here at West Kent College.
Career Options:
Employment at technical level, in a variety of occupations, within the construction industry is a route some past students have chosen.
