The Level 2 BTEC Certificate for Teaching Assistants is offered on a part time day or evening basis for one year. This qualification is designed to provide a framework of education and training for teaching assistants. The course will provide opportunity to gain knowledge, understanding and skills in order to be able to provide effective support in a variety of classroom situations.

Entry requirements
You will require a BTEC Certificate Level 1 or equivalent although mature candidates presenting a more varied profile of achievement will be welcomed.

What will I study?
You will study three core units, they are: Unit 1 The Learning Environment, Unit 2 Supporting Classroom Practices, Unit 3 Supporting Oracy, Literacy and Numeracy. Also 1 Option from a choice of Unit 4 Working with ICT or Unit 5 Supporting Children?s Welfare and Well-being.

How will I be assessed?
Units are assessed in a variety of ways which will include, written assignment work, observed practical work, witness statements, oral questioning and role play situations within the centre. NB. A work placement will be required for any student not currently in post as a teaching assistant.

Career Opportunities & Progression
After successful completion of this course you could progress to a BTE Level 3 Certificate for Teaching Assistants or take up a post as a Learning Support Assistant/Teaching Assistant.
