Course Overview This Equality and Diversity course can help you to understand policies and legislation relating to equality and diversity and enable you to develop personally and professionally. Perhaps you work in a school or for the NHS, in health and social care or for the fire or police service, or maybe you work for a business or charity. Whatever your profession, undertaking equality and diversity training is a great way to understand more about the meaning and importance of equality and diversity, the impact of prejudice and discrimination and employer and individual rights and responsibilities. The duration of the course is 120 guided learning hours. Study is at your own pace, normally 4-5 months. There are no predetermined scheduled classes on this course. Your action plan will be drawn up with your tutor at your induction meeting. This course is Distance Learning, your tutor will visit you either at your place of work, or at Newbury College if you are not in employment.

Qualification gained: NCFE Level 2 Certificate in Equality and Diversity.

Course Content: The course consists of 3 units which are: 1). Explore equality and diversity. This unit covers the meaning and importance of diversity, which individual and social characteristics form the basis of diversity, how different beliefs and value systems contribute to diversity, why fostering diversity is important in the workplace, the meaning of equality today and why its important, what is meant by equal opportunities in society and in the workplace and how equal opportunities are promoted in the workplace. 2). Explore prejudice and discrimination. This unit covers the difference between prejudice and discrimination, the basis of social and individual prejudice and discrimination, how to recognise prejudicial and discriminatory behaviour and practices, the law relating to anti-discrimination and how anti-discrimination can be fostered in the workplace. 3). Explore people's rights and responsibilities. This Unit covers how the law upholds equal opportunities, the rights and responsibilities of individuals in relation to anti-discrimination laws, how workforces or organisations can enforce laws relating to equal opportunities, why tension can occur between the rights of individuals and the responsibility of a company or institution, why conflict can occur between individuals exercising their rights and how to establish priorities and what can be done to overcome bad practice in the workplace.

Course Assessment: Assessment is through a series of questions found in the candidates workbook. These are completed at the end of each unit. These assessments are tutor marked and moderated by the awarding body.

Additional Costs: If you are not eligible for public funds, the full cost of the course is 550.
