Course Overview This course is aimed at beginners who have just started using a digital camera. Learners will become familiar with the basic functions of a digital camera and how to use it. Learners need to bring the following to the first class: pen and notebook. Material requirements will be discussed at the first class.
Qualification gained: This course does not lead to a formal qualification.
Course Content: The learners' level of computer competence will be established and learners will begin their familiarisation with digital cameras. How to combine an image manipulation suite [Photoshop] with cameral and printer. Discussion of the basic principles of Photography and the differences between analogue and digital. Learners will upload their own photographs from camera to computer and save them in the different file formats that are required for the variety of outputs. [JPEG and Bitmap for most Printers, Postscript for laser printers and JPEG and Gif for Web] Learners will use these tools on their saved images. As the course developes learners will helped to understand further ways to manipulate their photographs.
Work Experience: Learners do not need to be in relevant work to undertake this course.
Course Assessment: Progress on this course will be tested through observation, presentation and lecturer feedback.
Progression: Learners can progress onto other photography courses, including courses specialising in the use of Adobe Photoshop
Homework: Homework is not essential but learners will benefit from undertaking home study duirng the course
Additional Costs: Learners should be aware that this is can be an expensive subject to pursue and must be prepared to buy (or have) a digital camera and photo quality printing papers to produce quality photographs. Requirements for materials will be discussed at the first class.
