This course is suitable for beginners, and learners who would like to develop their floristry skills.
Learners will be required to supply their own flowers and sundries for the course - the tutor will give tips on keeping the cost to the minimum each week.
Information about the courseThis course includes basic floristry designs and some more unusual creative arrangements.
Learners will have the opportunity to develop their own individual style, using plant materials in an imaginative and cost effective way.
Course contentOn this course you may learn how to make the following:
Gift wrap a single flower & a small bouquet
Arrangement with manipulated leaves
Hand-tied bouquet
Contemporary arrangement
Tiered hand-tied arrangement
Tall arrangement
Oasis handbag
Table/napkin decorations
Seasonal table ring with candle in storm glass
Seasonal door wreath
The course content may vary to suit the needs of the class and the abilities and experience of the students attending. Also there will be a seasonal design dependent upon which season the term falls in.
Please bring to the first lesson:
Scissors, small amount of natural raffia, sellotape
A single flower eg. large gerbera or a large-headed rose
Small amount of bear grass (optional)
2-3 stems of long foliage - eg soft ruskus, or eucalyptus or similar
Small mixed bunch flowers (type sold in supermarkets)
A bucket to keep flowers fresh (if it is possible to carry one)
Notebook, pen, camera (optional if you own one)
Cellophane (the tutor will have some available at minimal cost, if you are unable to obtain some)
Please note you will need to take into consideration the cost of flowers when budgeting for this course.
AssessmentVerbal feedback and visual assessment of practical work. Individual Learning Plans.
Suggest: students photograph work and research other designs in similar style.
ProgressionAdvice and guidance will be offered throughout the course of further learning and progression opportunities. This course could lead to City and Guilds Courses running throughout the year. Your tutor will be able to advise you accordingly.
