Course description
The early years are rightly regarded as being the crucial time in a child's learning and this exciting course reflects the growing interest now taken by educationalists in this field. This degree brings together a number of academic disciplines including psychology, health care, educational studies and sociology. It is structured to provide an inter-agency focus and integrates the methods and insights of the various disciplines which contribute to our understanding of childhood. The Early Years Foundation Degree was developed in partnership with Oxford Brookes University which validates the degree. It is endorsed by the sector and is designed for practitioners who are working in a variety of early years settings with families, playgroups and in schools and nurseries.
Employers have been directly involved in the design of the programme, which will build upon the practical work you are already undertaking in the workplace to provide clear links between practice and theory.
Students will study the following modules:
Year 1
Studying Policy and Practice
Learning, Development and the Foundation Stage (including Child Development 1)
Inclusion in the Early Years
Communication, Language and Literacy in the Foundation Stage
Mathematical Development in the Foundation Stage
Physical, Creative Development and Knowledge and Understanding of the World.
Year 2
Child Development 2
Child Protection
Socio-emotional Impact of Health Issues on Children
Management in Early Years Settings
The Roles of Other Professionals in Early Years
Research Policy and Practice
You will attend college for one afternoon and evening per week but much learning will be undertaken in your workplace.
