Is it right for me?
A one day per week course that will provide the skills needed to attain an NVQ qualification showing you have reached the national standard at Level 2 and are capable at carrying out a range of normal tasks and routines on a shoot. The course can be undertaken as an apprenticeship and by adult trainees.

What will I be learning about?
Units covered will include:
  • Game shooting activities
  • Monitoring and maintaining game populations and habitats
  • Management of public relations and access
  • Maintain and repair structures
  • Pest control
  • Game bird production
  • Deer management

What is involved?
Underpinning knowledge, practical skills development.

Where will it take me?
Trainee keeper, underkeeper, beater, picker'up, gundog handler, game farm assistant.

What materials are required?
Practical clothing, overalls, waterproofs, wellingtons, steel toe'capped boots, basic stationery. Tetanus protection is recommended.

What is next?
National Award, Certificate or Diploma in Gamekeeping. NVQ Level 3 in Gamekeeping and Wildlife Management.

How will I be assessed?
A series of workplace assessments and short written assessments.
