What will I be doing?
Module 1: Handling Data
This module covers many aspects concerning the uses and applications of handling data. You will consolidate skills in problem recognition, planning, data collection, representing data and also interpreting and discussing results.
Module 3: Number and Algebra
This module includes work on:
Using and applying number and algebra, numbers and the number system, Calculations, Solving numerical problems, equations, formulae and identities, sequences, functions and graphs
Module 5 : Shape, Space and measures
This module covers topics including:
Using and applying shape, space and measures, geometrical reasoning, Transformations, coordinates, Measures and construction. It will also consolidate some the algebra from module 3.
How will I be assessed?
Please note that coursework no longer forms part of the assessment.
Module 1: Handling Data
Written Paper 18% of total marks
2 x 30 minutes, Section A â€" Calculator, Section B â€" Non-calculator
You will take this exam in November 2008
Module 3: Number and Algebra
Written Paper 27% of total marks
2 x 45 minutes, Section A â€" Calculator, Section B â€" Non-calculator
You will take this exam in March 2009
Module 5 : Shape, Space and measures
Two Written Papers, each 27.5% of total marks and 1 hour 15 minutes long
Paper 1 Non-calculator, Paper 2 calculator,
You will take this exam in May/June 2009
What can I do after completing the course?
GCSE Mathematics covers a range of mathematical skills that you will use for many other subjects and for everyday use. People like its challenge, its clarity, and the fact that you know when you are right. A grade C at GCSE mathematics is often a requirement for most employers and higher and further education courses.
