Course aims:
Are currently working in the Care Industry? Do you know that by 2010 you will need to have a Level 2 qualification, or be registered for one?
This NVQ qualification will satisfy the new legislation as well as give new students the opportunity to apply for Care jobs with confidence.
By the end of the course you will have gained knowledge and skills to effectively communicate and complete records for individuals, support the care and well-being of patients and follow Health and Safety practices for yourself and other individuals.

Course content:
You will complete six units of study, the four mandatory units listed below and two optional units that will be selected by you.
  • Effective communication and complete records for individuals
  • Support the Health and Safety of yourself and individuals
  • Develop your knowledge and practise
  • Ensure your own action support the care and wellbeing individuals


Facilities for students:
You will have full access to all the college facilities.

Tutors:
We have a very experienced team of assessors here at City College. They are from a range of backgrounds in the Health and Social Care industry. They are all professionally qualified and you will benefit from their knowledge and experience.

Assessment: You will complete a portfolio of evidence to show that you are Level two competent. Your portfolio will contain:
  • Assessor Observations these will be pre-arranged by your assessor and will take place in your work place.
  • Knowledge Questions You will be provided with knowledge packs after you have attended a workshop. The completed pack will be placed in your portfolio.
  • Reflections Reflections on your practise with clients.
  • Witness Testimony Completed by your Managers and Supervisors, when you carry out daily tasks.

Entry Requirements:
You must already be employed or volunteering in the Health and Social Care industry, with at least 6 hours a week client contact.
You must also hold a valid CRB check.

Pre-entry preparation:
None

Progression and links:
Once you have completed this course you can move on to the NVQ 3 in Health and Social Care. However, you must be employed in a Health or Social Care establishment and be carrying out supervisory duties.
Once you hold your Level two you can apply for any job that requires you to be qualified as a Level two carer.

Work experience opportunities:
Throughout your time studying here you will gain work experience through either employment or volunteering.
