Course Overview This course is for anybody working within a Care environment in a management capacity and leading a team of people within that setting. The course is aimed at staff who wish to enhance their management career and develop skills and knowledge of others. You will achieve a recognised national qualification at management level.

Qualification gained: NVQ, Health and Social Care Level 4. This course can be done alongside the Registered Manager's Award RMA] level 4.

Course Content: You will learn complex and professional ways of developing other staff under your leadership and guidance to comply with all regulatory policies and procedures. You will have a substantial degree of personal autonomy and responsibility, this will include responsibility for the work of others and the allocation of resources. You will learn ways of managing staff effectively and the various styles of managing and how to evaluate your own performance and effectiveness. Managers are regulated by the Commission for Social Care Inspection [CSCI] in England and The Care Standards Inspectorate in Wales [CSIW].This award will enable you to demonstrate through your day to day practice that you have the necessary skills and knowledge to deliver agreed best practice in management. There are 8 units; 4 mandatory units and 4 optional units. 3 mandatory units are generic , the 4th unit is optional depending on the pathway you choose to take i.e. adults or children and young people. Core units include, Use and develop methods and systems to communicate, Health and Safety Practice within the work place, take responsibility for your own development and that of others[ C.P.D]. The final mandatory unit involves promoting choice, well-being and protection of individuals [ adults or children depending on your chosen pathway ].

Work Experience: Must be currently working in a care environment in a managerial role responsible for your own practices and those of others within the care setting.

Course Assessment: Students are assessed at work with at least 6 workshops at the College which includes a full induction to the College and its resources. Observation and continual feedback will be carried out by experienced and highly trained Assessors. Average allocated hours per month is 4 but more if required depending on the level of individual support needed.

Progression: Could follow alongside the Registered Managers' award or move onto the RMA. Qualification is recognised as a requirement for managing a care setting and enhancing your career.

Homework: This course is assessed by observations in the workplace so homework is minimal.

  • Part Time Course Fee Relate to Year 1 course fees only. Two year course fees will have an additional course fee for the second year; these fees are subject to confirmation annually.

Entry Requirement

Must be qualified to Level 3 and be functioning in a managerial role, managing the entire staff team ranging from Housekeeping staff to night staff. Must have an insight into managing a budget, staff recruitment, training and disciplinary procedures. Must have an in-depth knowledge of the complaints procedure and the rights and responsibilities of service-users within your care setting. Previous or current experience at managing a care setting on a daily basis in compliance with statutory requirements.
