The course will enable students to gain the knowledge of policy and professional issues which will help them develop their careers in care. The course leads to a Higher National Certificate.

One A Level or equivalent qualifications. Access qualifications are welcomed. Mature students can be considered with no academic qualifications but must have practical experience in care work. Work experience in care (paid or voluntary) is required during the course.

Course Content

The course leads to a Higher National Certificate validated by the University of Glamorgan
Course Features
No examinations - assessment is continuous by completion of assignments.

Much student support available on site, ranging from learning support for study skills, through to use of the internet and personal counselling.
Learn in a small class with professionally qualified tutors.
Study visits as part of the course to a variety of agencies.
Career Prospects and Progression
Successful completion of the HNC award will lead to an opportunity to study the Foundation Degree or BSc in care, or provide entry qualifications for other higher education e.g. social work or social sciences degrees, or an NVQ Level 4 (if working in an appropriate job role). The qualification and skills gained will also help career progression to more senior roles.
Modules
Includes the following compulsory Core Modules: Equality Diversity and Rights, Social Care and Health Organisations, Using Research in Health and Care Practice. Option modules in year two offer opportunity to study work with particular client groups, or community work, or a current care issue.
Method of Assessment
Assessment is continuous and by assignment. There are no examinations.

The course is delivered over approx. 6 hours (one day) per week, daytime only, in three terms a year for two years.
