Course Content

The HNC in Childhood Studies is a two year part-time course (one day per week) which aims to help students who already work with children to gain a qualification which recognises their skills. The course will enable students to gain the required theory and knowledge to work with children and young people, and the awareness of policy and professional issues which will help them develop their careers in care. The course leads to a Higher National Certificate validated by the University of Glamorgan and by Edexcel.

Student support available on site, ranging from learning support for study skills, through to use of the internet and personal counselling.
Career Prospects and Progression

Students may develop their careers working with children, or progress to the Foundation Degree in Childhood studies or other professional training (e.g. teacher training, social work, nursing).

Method of Assessment

Each module is assessed separately by a variety of methods. Continuous assessment.

The course is delivered over approx. 6 hours/week (daytime only) over three terms per year, for two years.

Entry Requirements

Education to A level standard, Access qualification or on the basis of prior work experience combined with an interview. Mature students are welcomed.
