About this course

Generally applicants will be at least 18 years old and have either BTEC National Certificate or Diploma in Construction or at least 2 A levels, plus 4 or more appropriate GCSEs at grade C or above. Is the course for me?
The BTEC Higher National Certificate is a qualification fully recognised by the Construction Industry and the providers of Higher Education in the UK. It runs for two years and is attended on a day release basis by students employed within the construction industry. The course is intended to develop knowledge, skills and understanding including the selection and organisation of information and solving problems which face the industry in building, design, planning and economic terms. What will I learn?
Core Units: Design Principles & Applications, Science & Materials, Analytical Methods, Management Principals, Group Project, Health, Safety & Welfare, Optional Units: Technology A, Technology B, Design Procedures, Site Surveying Procedures. These units provide a wide knowledge base, in order to stand you in stead for further study in your chosen specialism. The course presents a varied profile of achievement that is considered as CPD for a range of professional qualifications in the work sector.

How will I be assessed?
Each unit is internally assessed and graded by lecturers. Unit grades awarded are Pass, Merit or Distinction. There is no overall grade awarded for this qualification. There is a mix of continuous assessment, such as assignment work, workbooks and formal test papers used to assess progress on this course.
