Course Content

The course is studied part time over two years with students studying four modules each year. Students will spend approximately 8 hours per week in scheduled classes, consisting of lectures, tutorials or practical sessions. A further four hours per week for each module will be spent completing coursework, general reading and other preparation. Because of the practical nature of the course, there is less emphasis on examinations. Each module will have assessed assignments, and some will have an examination at the end.

A specialist vocational programme, including ECDL, Professional Development Skills and Internet Development.

Providing opportunities for part-time learners to gain a nationally recognized vocationally specific qualification, to enter employment, or progress to higher education qualifications such as a full or part-time degree.

Providing specialist studies relevant to vocations and professions in which learners are working or intend to seek employment within related industries.
Career Prospects and Progression

This course has a strong practical orientation and prepares for a career in computer application or user support and training in commercial organisations and software houses. It is a growing and lucrative industry; opportunities exist in the private sectoe, public services and worldwide. Successful completion of a HNC qualification will enable students to apply for a top-up degree in computing.

Entry Requirements

Normally, students 18-21 year of age will require a minimum of four GCSE grades A*-C, including Mathematics and one of the following. One A-Level Pass, AVCE, National Diploma, Applied GCE ICT or equivalent qualification. Entry for mature students over the age of 21 without formal qualifications is at the discretion of the faculty.
