Course Content

Course Features

The HNC/HND is provided on a part-time basis, allowing students to combine employment with higher education.

The course is modular; and students can gain certification for any successful completed modules.

Results for this course are very good and students on successful completion of the HND, may progress to the degree programme at the Institute of Rural Sciences, University of Wales, Aberystwyth.
Career Prospects and Progression

The aim of the College is to provide realistic theoretical and practical training for those whose intentions it is to enter the industry as farmers, enterprise managers and farm managers or to work in the agricultural service industries. The BTEC Higher National Certificate is recognised as a vocational alternative qualification compared to A-levels, if students wish to progress to the HND or Degree.

Modules: Agricultural Industry, Animal Production Systems, Animal Science, Rural Resource Use, Soil Conditions and Plant Growth, Plant and Crop Science, Agricultural Ecology, Crop and Grassland Management, Food, Farming and the Environment, Advanced Computing in Agriculture, Animal Nutrition, Business Planning and Control, Animal Health, Industry Placement, Crop and Livestock Mechanisation.

Method of Assessment

Student performance is monitored by assignments, continuous assessment, practical work, end of module assessment and completion of a major project.

Course Length

HNC 2 Years plus 1 Semester, followed by HND 1 year plus 1 semester. Day Release studied part time.
