What qualifications will I need?
A real interest in horses! Minimum age 14 yrs. Tetanus protection is recommended.
What will I be learning about?
- The main systems of the horse
- Pasture management
- Feeding
- Teeth and ageing
- Remedial shoes
- Care of the sick horse
- Tack, bits and gadgets
- Stable vices
Where will it take me?
This is the fourth British Horse Society progressive horse knowledge and care courses run at Kingston Maurward College. This is a vocational interest course.
What materials are required?
File, paper and pens. Appropriate clothing for the time of year for working outdoors. Yard boots or jodhpur boots are acceptable on the yard.
What is next?
Perhaps look at improving your turnout skills or take a Horse Massage course.
How will I be assessed?
There is a short written paper at the end of the course to achieve the Horse Owners Certificate
