Course Description
The Level 3 Professional Diploma in Law and Practice is a broad-based, practical introduction to Law and Legal Practice. It requires that students achieve across key areas of Law and Legal Practice (i.e. mandatory Law units consist of Contract Law, Criminal Law, Land Law and Law of Tort)
Course Structure
To achieve the diploma you must successfully complete 10 units from the suite of 17 units. However, if you have completed the Level 3 Certificate in Law and Practice whilst working towards the diploma, you will have already taken 5 units, so will only have a further 5 units to take in accordance with the qualification rules.
The 10 units taken to achieve the diploma must comply with the following rules:
1. You must take 7 mandatory units as follows:
- Unit 1 Introduction to Law and Practice
- Unit 2 Contract Law
- Unit 3 Criminal Law
- Unit 4 Land Law
- Unit 5 Law of Tort
- Unit 16 Client Care Skills
- Unit 17 Legal Research Skills
2. You must take 3 other units - at least 2 of these units must be Practice units and the third unit can be either a Law unit or a Practice unit. These units are chosen from the suite of 17 units.
3. No Practice unit can be counted as achievement towards the diploma without the linked Law unit being taken also.
Assessment methods are as follows:
- Unit 1: 1 hour multiple choice test
- Units 2-8: 1½ hour closed book exam (and 15 minutes reading time)
- Units 9-15: 1½ hour closed book exam (and 15 minutes reading time) based on pre-released case study
- Units 16-17: Series of skills-based tasks set by ILEX, undertaken with centre and quality assured by ILEX
