Course Description
This is a level 1 pre-apprenticeship qualification that covers the technical needs for today†s motor vehicle repair industry, including basic processes, principles and foundation skills.

It provides essential knowledge for working on vehicles in all types of garages, dealerships and maintenance depots.

It is a learning programme which involves students studying both the theory and practical aspects of light vehicles in the following:
  • Basic Construction and Layouts
  • Basic Front Wheel Alignment
  • Basic Testing of Vehicle Charging Systems
  • Basic Removal and Replacement of Clutches, Exhaust Systems, Batteries,
  • Suspension Dampers, Braking System Components, Standard Light Vehicle Tyres
  • Students also gain a broad knowledge and understanding of health and safety in the workplace and other skills associated with working in a garage.
  • Fast fit technicians work in separate workshops or along side other vehicle technicians. Their main duties will include:
  • Testing batteries and other engine parts to find faults
  • Checking tyres and exhausts for defects
  • Replacing or repairing faulty parts
  • Balancing and re-aligning wheels
  • Offering customers advice on simple maintenance issues
  • Routine Maintenance


Course Structure
Candidates must achieve all 9 mandatory units.
  • F1 Working Safely and Effectively during Vehicle Fitting Operations
  • F2 Basic Vehicle Construction and Layouts
  • F3 Basic Vehicle Front Wheel Alignment
  • F4 Basic Removal and Replacement of Light Vehicle Clutches
  • F5 Basic Removal and Replacement of Light Vehicle Exhaust Systems
  • F6 Basic Testing of Vehicle Charging Systems and Removal and replacement of Batteries
  • F7 Basic Removal and Replacement of Light Vehicle Suspension dampers
  • F8 Removal and Replacement of Basic Vehicle Breaking System components
  • F9 Basic Removal and Replacement of Standard Light Vehicle Tyres

Successful candidates can progress on to a level 2 Fast Fit programme, or to a Vehicle Technician course.

Successful completion will assist your progression in your current employment and also widen opportunities within the general motor vehicle environment. Such as franchised dealerships, Independent fast fit centres, National fast fit chains, Independent retail garages.
