Introduction to Indian cookery - how to effectively use Indian spices, herbs, pulses and other ingredients in preparing an indian dishes/meal. PLEASE NOTE THE COURSE WILL TAKE PLACE AT SAXONGATE LEARNING CENTRE, BASED IN THE CENTRE OF HUNTINGDON.

What will you study
Introduction to Indian spices & herbs and how to use them in preparing Indian dishes. Show how to make chappatis on a hot plate (tava) and fried. Show how to make lentil/vegetable curry, onion bhajis & raita, chicken/meat curry using raw ingrediants.

How will you be assessed
Students will prepare meals/dishes during the lessons (hands on) after they have been shown how to prepare them or following a recepie given to them. This will be recorded.

Additional information
Students should practice what has been learnt during the lessons at home. Additional costs: raw materials - spices and spice tin (optional), special flours ( e.g. chapati flour & gram flour), indian rolling pin and board, lentils & vegetables and any other raw materials required. Special equipment required: indian rolling pin & board, tava (hot plate), herb & nut mincer, wok, hot pan of oil for frying (onion bajis, papadums & puris).
