Interior Design - Introduction to Home Interiors

Level: Introduction

Course content:
An introduction to the basic principles of interior design. This is a short, practical, ten hour course for those who may have completed the one day taster course, or, for those who are thinking about taking up interior design as a career change, full time study or personal interest.
At the end of this course you will be able to:
-Identify the differences between interior design, interior decoration, home styling and home interiors
-Make informed decisions about further study or work
-Explain the role of an interior designer
-Use basic measurement
-Complete a basic room survey
-Name a contemporary designer maker
-Plan an idea for a space
-Recognise mood and style
-Use basic room layout skill principles
-Identify some uses of colour and lighting
-Use mark making to illustrate some design ideas
Identify design strengths and weaknesses
Present work with some basic design skills

Course Structure:
Demonstrations, practical individual and group work, whole class presentations, group and paired discussions. You will need to supply your own materials which will include: 2h, 4h pencils, coloured pencil crayons, coloured paper, glue, scissors, double sided tape, metal ruler, notebook, drawing book, A3 size presentation boards, tape measure…. The teacher will have a comprehensive materials list week by week, so you are advised to wait until the first class rather than spend too much money before the course starts

Fee 2: Aged 60+ years fee
Students in receipt of an income-based benefit pay £20 per course per term.
You will need to bring proof of age and any benefits when you enrol.
