Part Time ITQ - The New NVQ in IT
Course Description:
What is an ITQ?
The ITQ is a new initiative that lets you design a nationally recognised qualification based on your own personal IT skills or organisation's requirements.
Content
There are 2 options open to you:
Option 1: Simply choose a level
The ITQ and ECDL go hand in hand and can be taken at 3 different levels, the level selected will depend on your prior experience. With help and guidance, and in consultation with your employer where relevant, you will choose the right level of study at levels 1, 2, or 3 of the ECDL portfolio which contain a range of modules as shown here:
Level 1 ITQ Award
ECDL Essentials
- IT User Fundamentals - 3 Credits
- Using Email and the Internet - 5 Credits
- Security for IT Users - 1 Credit
Full Level 2 ITQ Certificate
ECDL Extra
- Word Processing - 4 Credits
- Spreadsheet Software - 4 Credits
- Presentation Software - 4 Credits
- Improving Productivity Using IT - 4 Credits
Full Level 3 ITQ Certificate
ECDL Advanced
- Word Processing - 6 Credits
- Spreadsheet Software - 6 Credits
- Database Software - 6 Credits
- Presentation Software - 6 Credits
- Improving Productivity Using IT -5 Credits
Option 2: Create a Flexible Qualification
With the FlexiQual route you can 'mix and match' the units and levels to allow you to concentrate on the subjects that you require, so creating a customised ITQ that suits your needs or that of your employer.
A FlexiQual can be made up of any units, however there are rules of combination which must be followed.
1. The credit total needs to be the same as or higher than the minimum requirement for the level of qualification chosen.
- Level 2 - 13 credits
- Level 3 - 25 credits
2. Units from lower or higher levels can be included, however at least 50% of the credit total must be taken at the ITQ level chosen.
3. Candidates cannot take the same unit at different levels within a single qualification.
4. The final qualification must include the mandatory unit.
Mandatory Unit
Whichever route you take, there is one mandatory unit that must be taken at your chosen ITQ level which is 'Improving Productivitiy Using IT'. This module helps to contextualise what you have learnt and gives you the opportunity to demonstrate and provide evidence of how your skills may be applied in the workplace.
Course Type:
Part Time
Assessment and Progression:
You will be assessed and observed at your place of work, on a regular basis, in order to build a portfolio of evidence that demonstrates your competence at performing the necessary tasks to achieve the qualification.
If you already have IT qualifications, such as CLAiT, ECDL or e-quals, these will count towards your ITQ.
Progression
Upon successful completion of the ITQ, you will be able to progress to a wide variety of IT qualifications, such as ECDL Advanced, BTEC Diploma, etc.
Duration:
This is variable and will depend on the package decided between yourslef, your employer and your assessor
