About the course:
The course studies all aspects of planning and financing a business, including the entrepreneurial skills required, as well as an introduction to the requirements of managing a business and decision making. You will study the key functional areas of a business: Finance, Operations Management, Marketing and Human Resources Management.
Students learn to analyse a business situation: business theory is used to highlight relationships of cause and effect. Once the situation is analysed and understood, students can suggest courses of action which may enable the business or non-profit organisation to achieve its objectives. This involves choosing between courses of action, which requires the skills of evaluation. The course therefore encourages clear and rigorous thinking, discussion and writing in the context of business decisions.
The AS qualification consists of the following 2 units:
Unit 1: Planning and Financing a Business
Unit 2: Managing a Business
The full A Level qualification consists of the AS units plus the following 2 units:
Unit 3: Strategies for Success
Unit 4: Business Environment and Managing Change
AS Business Studies runs on Thursday evenings (6.30-9.00pm) and A2 Business Studies on Tuesdays (6.30-9.00pm).

By 2 written examinations, externally assessed. The exam board is AQA.
