This 1-year course allows you to develop your interest and enjoyment of history. The AS is the first part of the full A Level, both the AS and A2 can be studied in the same year. The course involves a study of British history in the 17th century, covering political, religious and military developments, with a focus on Civil Wars. An element of linked continental European history is included in the coursework, and students will have an opportunity to design and research a piece of coursework on an historical subject of their choosing.

What will I study?
For the AS qualification you will study three units, they are: Unit 1 Monarchy and Republic in Britain, 1642-53; Unit 2 The Crisis of the British Monarchy, 1629-42 and Unit 3 The Restoration of the Monarchy, 1660-89.
How will I be assessed?
The assessment is a mixture of both examinations and coursework. There will be examinations for Units 1 & 2.
Career Opportunities & Progression
After successful completion of the AS you can progress to the A2 Level History to gain the full A Level.
