What is this course about?
The MBA (Education) is a sector-informed development within the business school utilising extensive CEL research and in-depth knowledge from the university's Faculty of Education. The programme has been led by the immediate needs of managers within further education who operate in various disciplines to undertake structured management development to aid the development of their own organisations in order to respond to the challenges of managing complex organisational change.
The MBA (Education) has been designed as an appropriate continuation of the Modular Management Programme. The programme is research-informed and practice-led to enable the development of leadership and management in an educational context. It is designed to be a flexible programme delivered on a cohort basis in two-day blocks focused on the development opportunities for you and your organisation.
The MBA specifically offers
  • action-learning approach centering around work-based assignments blending theory and practice to deliver organisational outcomes
  • strong focus on leadership and management development enhancing your knowledge of business functions and their interactions in order to manage complex organisational change
  • flexible modular structure delivered in the Lake District and/or at an external location
  • advanced distance-learning support and personal development planning through the use of e-portfolios such as PebblePad
  • cost-effective mechanism for organisational development and evaluations
  • exit pathways for Postgraduate Diploma or MBA.
Study Pattern
The MBA modules are designed around an intensive delivery model of two, two-day block taught provision with a strong emphasis on action learning sets working in parallel with the taught programme.
Assessment Type
Integrating your own learning and development in a work-based situation is the underpinning principle behind the design of this MBA programme. At the end of each of the six core modules you will complete an individual and group-based assignment aimed at developing your knowledge and understanding of the materials covered and how these apply in an organisational context. The assessment process will also involve a case-study project enabling you to apply a range of theories and knowledge to a real problem in your organisation, in order to make a difference to your own management style and organisational performance.
What can the course lead to?
The MBA is the prime management qualification for managers. Research indicates that the MBA is a catalyst for those candidates with strong career aspirations.
Our Teaching Staff
The expert tutor team which have considerable experience of CEL programmes and the FE sector. Tutors teaching on this programme have been practising managers with a wealth of experience in both academic theory and practical application of those theories.
Course Specific Entry Requirements
Students applying to the full-time programme should normally hold a good honours degree and have at least two years of postgraduate experience in a management role.
In line with QAA benchmarks, this part-time programme is defined as a career development specialist programme for those who have significant postgraduate and relevant work experience on which the learning process will build. Students would normally be expected to hold a good (2(ii) or above) honours degree with a minimum of two years post qualification experience in a management role. Applicants who have more substantial management experience will be considered for admission based on either relevant professional qualifications or other appropriate criteria.
