Course Description:
The course provides knowledge of medical terminology, medical abbreviations, classification of drugs and prescription abbreviations. It will be useful to those working, or interested in working, in a medical environment.

• Origins of medical terminology
• Composition of medical words
• Commonly used medical abbreviations
• Use of a medical dictionary
• Classification of drugs
• Prescription abbreviations

Regular homework is included.

Students should equip themselves with a ring binder (to file handouts) and a medical dictionary.

Part Time

Assessment and Progression:
At the end of the course, there will be a 1.5 hours exam based on the knowledge acquired on the course.

Progression
There is no direct progression available, but a variety of business, secretarial and administrative courses are available.

Duration:
The course runs for 60 hours over 30 weeks. Attendance will be on Wednesdays from 09.00 - 11.00 am starting in September.
