This is a one year part-time course of intensive study that introduces students to a range of horticultural topics and leads to a well respected professional qualification. The National Certificate provides the practical skills and knowledge needed for employment into the horticulture industry or onto higher level courses. The course consists of 10 units - Horticultural science, Principles of Machinery, Identification of weeds, pests and diseases, Health and safety in amenity horticulture, Plant establishment and maintenance, Identification and use of plants, Establish and maintain turf, Propagation techniques, Operation and maintenance of horticultural equipment, Establish and maintain specialist horticultural features. Students study each unit in detail and are assessed throughout the course by a combination of practical assessments, short written tests and assignment work. There is an externally set multiple choice exam which is taken at the end of the course.
