Course Description
This course seeks to ensure that students are appropriately prepared for a career within the airline industry. On completion of the course, students should have the basic background skills, understanding and knowledge to prepare them for entry onto airline industry training in the role of cabin crew.
The qualification aims to provide the skills and knowledge required to work effectively as a member of an airline cabin crew. It sets out to promote good practice in cabin crewing by working towards national standards and to provide a basis for further study and motivation towards career development.
Course Structure
The course contains six units. All units must be successfully completed to gain the qualification.
The six units are:
- Understand the airline industry and the role of airline cabin crew
- Promote effective customer care in the airline industry
- Maintain effective team working and communications in the airline industry
- Contribute to the Health and Safety of airline passengers
- Contribute to aviation security
- Demonstrate an understanding of the airline arrival process.
Assessment for the course is through the development of a portfolio of evidence. Some practical activities and role plays will be used where applicable. A number of assessments will utilise the realistic working environment of the fuselage at Directions Finningley on the site of Robin Hood Airport.

Course Progression
You may progress to higher level qualifications (dependent upon meeting other entry requirements) including travel and tourism courses and aviation courses.
Course Career Prospects
- On completion of the course students are guaranteed an interview with Thomas Cook Airlines and BMI on satisfaction of recruitment criteria. To gain airport employment you will need to be at least 18 years of age, have a valid passport and qualifications to level 2 in literacy and numeracy.
