Course Description
This course seeks to ensure that students are appropriately prepared for a career within the airline industry. On completion of the course, students should have the basic background skills, understanding and knowledge to prepare them for entry into airline industry training in the role of passenger service agent.
The qualification aims to provide an understanding of the airline industry and to equip learners with the skills and knowledge required to be an Airport Passenger Service Agent. It will also provide learners with knowledge of customer care and how to handle the needs of airline passengers.
Course Structure
The course contains six units. All units must be successfully completed to gain the qualification.
The six units are:
- Research the airport industry and the role of passenger service agent
- Understand airport knowledge required by the passenger service agent
- Deal effectively with the processing of aircraft passengers
- Identify the boarding procedure for aircraft passengers
- Identify the procedures for de-controlling aircraft passengers
- Procedures involved in disembarkation of airline passengers
You will also study Servisair training modules in Passports and Visas, Manual Check-in and Seating methods
Assessment for the course is through the development of a portfolio of evidence. Some practical activities and role plays will be used where applicable. A number of assessments will utilise the realistic working environment at Directions Finningley on the site of Robin Hood Airport.

Course Progression
You may progress to higher level qualifications (dependent upon meeting other entry requirements) including travel and tourism courses and aviation courses.
Course Career Prospects
- To gain airport employment you will need to be at least 18 years of age, have a valid passport and qualifications to level 2 in literacy and numeracy. A 5 year security check will also be required for employment. Possible employment options include working for airlines or ground handling companies. This course provides certification for the Servisair training modules in Passports and Visas, Manual Check-in and Seating methods which will provide accelerated training if employed by this company.
